Résumé / Abstract
After a stroke, there can be numerous affective disorders. Depression is the most frequent disorder found, followed by anxiety, apathy and emotional lability. Identifying and treating them are important because of the impact they have on these patients' functional recovery and social integration. Psychological morbidity, specifically anxiety, can be alleviated by explaining the nature, prognosis and consequences of the stroke to the patient and their family. The pharmacological treatment is effective and the selective inhibitors of the serotonin uptake are the treatment of choice in the post-stroke depression and they can also be useful in the treatment of emotional lability. The burden of the caregivers affects the family functioning with repercussions, basically emotional, on the principal caregiver. The caregivers must get involved in the rehabilitation treatment and their possible overload should be taken into account.
