Air quality in rooms with cooled ceilings and either displacement flow or mixed flow Cooled ceilings are used increasingly with displacement flow instead of mixing flow to reach a low contamination load with a high thermal comfort in the occupied zone. The advantages for air quality of the displacement flow compared with mixing flow systems are decreasing, if the cooled ceiling takes over a high quantity of the cooling load. Experiments in rooms with cooled ceilings and either displacement flow or mixing flow show a better air quality in the occupied zone with displacement flow than with mixing flow if about 20-25% of the cooling load is taken by the supply air.
