Résumé / Abstract

Building environmental performance assessment criteria (BEPAC) is the first comprehensive method in Canada for evaluating the environmental performance of both new and existing office buildings. BEPAC is comprised of a comprehensive set of environmental criteria, structured in five major topics : ozone layer protection, environmental impacts of energy use, indoor environmental quality, resource conservation and site and transportation. The credited criteria of BEPAC are organized within four modules. These modules are designed differently for the Base building and tenancies. Design and management are addressed at both levels. Each module addresses the five topic areas. BEPAC criteria begin where average practice and codes leave off The standards set in BEPAC are those which are consistent with best practice today and will lead industry towards more environmentally responsive practice en the future.
