Résumé / Abstract

A detailed sampling was made in soil profile in the second year (1989-90) of a field experiment, in a clay loam dark red podzolic (Rhodic Paleudult), involving soil tillage and fertilizer placement. The experiment was conducted in the Agronomic Experimental Station / Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul, Eldorado do Sul, Brazil, in a split-plot design. Treatments ofsoil tillage were: conventional, strip and no-tillage, applied in the main plots, and fertilizer placement: broadcast, strip and row, in the split-plot. Corn seed lines, 1.0 m spaced, were placed in the same position as in the first year crop. Sampling of the soil profile was done during the corn grain filling period. Soil physical characteristics: macro, micro and total porosity, density and penetration resistance, were not affected by soil tillage treatments. Distribution of exchangeable calcium, magnesium and aluminum, pH (water) and lime requirement in soil profile were also not affected by soil tillage. Available potassium (Mehlich-1) was high around corn stalk and gradually decreased from there, in spite of the intensity of its mixture with the soil resulted from soil tillage and fertilizer placement treatments.
