Résumé / Abstract

An acid digestion method was developed using aqua regia, bromine, HF, HClO4, and H202, to decompose sulfide ores (CH- 1, CH-3, and ASK-3) and other precious metal reference samples (GTS-1, MA-1b, MA-1a, MA-3, CCU-1b, FTC-1, UMT-1, PTM-1, and SARM-7) for direct ICP-MS determination of platinum, palladium, gold, and silver. Rhodium (103Rh) was used as the internal standard. The optimum quantity of sample suitable for analysis was found to be 2.0 g after the bulk sample was powdered to approximately 260 mesh and homogenized. The procedure described here could be used to decompose rock and ore samples very effectively without the need of pre-roasting. The Pt, Pd, Au, and Ag values obtained for the 12 reference samples were compared with certified reference values. The precision achieved was better than ±8% RSD with comparable accuracy in most cases when six aliquots of the sample were dissolved separately and analyzed. The proposed method is sensitive and rapid, facilitating the analysis of approximately 60 samples for Pd, Pt, Au, and Ag determination in seven hours excluding sample preparation time. Detection limits were in the range 0.01 to 0.04 ng/mL of digested solutions which are suitable results for exploration applications.
