Europe's annual Russian gas supply dispute was nastier and longer this New Year. It highlighted the vulnerability of eastern European Union (EU) member states to a disruption of gas flow, while the western EU members continued to pursue their separate dealings with Russia. As the EU's policy towards Russia fragments, all sides are looking for someone to blame, writes Maria Kielmas.
