Dimensions personalistes de la grÀcia en sant tomÀs d'aquino

Auteur(s) / Author(s)

ROVIRA BELLOSO Josep M. ;

Résumé / Abstract

The author studies the four places where Thomas exposes his theology of Grace: the Commentary to the Sentences; the questions De Veritate; the Summa contra Gentiles; and the Summa Theologiae. The contents are practically invariable, except the importance that Thomas gives to the «increated Grace» in the Commentary to the Sentences and the most decidedly anti-Pellagian inflection that is found from the Summa contra Gentiles onward. The article studies the points where Thomas expresses himself in more personalist and religious categories: Grace as the friendship love, the Sentences will say; the initiative of God precedes the cooperation of man, Contra Gentiles will say in anti-Pellagian terms: however, there needs to be a preparation in man -conversion to God- brought about by free will; for this reason, God moves man and relates to him lovingly and leaves in him the effect of this Love: the donum habituate which is not a «thing» extrinsic to the person, but supposes the gratuitous perfection of man: it is an intrinsic gift to the person. Therefore, Grace is not generated by a form extrinsic to the personal being, but instead, as the spiritual generation that it is, it culminates with the perfection of the person. Finally: the unity of Grace. Rather than different Graces -the habitual gift and the present Grace; the prevenient Grace and the consequent one; the operating and the cooperating- there is the single line drawn by the Love which is God, when God favours the intellectual creature.
