Résumé / Abstract
The new data on the distribution of the hermit crab Pagurus bernhardus in the Barents and White Seas were obtained during the scuba investigations in the coastal waters off the Kola Peninsula. This species was found to inhabit the water along the whole Kola Peninsula coast. It also occurs in the Gorlo of the White Sea. Presently, the area of P. bernhardus (66°50.4' N- 41°13.2' E) ranges from the Gorlo of the White Sea in the east and from the Shpitsbergen Archipelago in the north to the British Islands and the bay of Biscay in the south. This hermit crab was spread over the White Sea in the late twentieth century. The other species, P. pubescens is a typical representative of the fauna of the Barents and White Seas. It also occurs in the coastal zone of the Kola Peninsula practically everywhere on different substrates, except for pure sand, at a water temperature from -2.2 to +13.1°C. In the Barents Sea, the areas of these species are rarely overlapped.
