Résumé / Abstract
From Nicholas White's paper on (published in 1971) scholars have discused Aristotle's concept of identity in a new way. They have shed light on that from the so called Leibniz' Law about the identity of indiscernibles and some modem semantic tools to examine the relation between a subject and a compound of that subject with an accident. So they press on Aristotle's "tautón" to find hints at the modern approach of Leibniz and later of Frege. In this article, I will try to reconstruct some aspects of this interpretation to show relevant features of Aristotle's semantic that it fails to grasp in its systematic function within his theory. I will also examine the relevant texts to point out the essentialistic basis that make aristotelian thesis on identity a coherent and articulated theory. At the end, I attempt to explain the aristotelian solutions to some paradoxes involving identity in a new light, following in this point Frank Lewis' interpretation.
