Résumé / Abstract
We examined the anti-hypertensive effect and safety of long-term intake of a drink containing tomato vinegar on high-normal blood pressure and mild hypertensive subjects. This study was performed in a placebo-controlled, parallel, double-blind clinical test. Ninety-subjects were divided into two groups before the study so that there were no statistical differences in the age, sex, systolic blood pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP), heart rate, height, body weight and BMI (Body Mass Index). Test food group was given a drink containing tomato vinegar (750 mg/100 g/day), and placebo group was given a drink which dose not contain tomato vinegar once a day for 12 weeks. The results revealed that SBP in test food group was significantly reduced at 6, 8, 10 and 12 weeks after the intake compared to the value before ingestion, and significant reduction in SBP was observed at 10 and 12 weeks in test food group compared to placebo group. DBP in test food group was significantly reduced at 10 and 12 weeks after intake compared to the value before ingestion, and the significant reduction of DBP was observed between test food group and placebo group at 10 weeks. Furthermore, in the analysis stratified high-normal blood pressure or mild hypertension, SBP in the tomato vinegar group at 10 and 12 weeks after the intake were significantly decreased compared to the value before ingestion and placebo group. There were no clinical problems in the blood tests, urine tests and physical examinations. These results suggest that the drink containing tomato vinegar is safe and useful for regulating the blood pressure in subjects with high-normal blood pressure and mild hypertension.
