Résumé / Abstract

The last Council restored the status of permanent deacon, thus referring to XIIIth century theology and liturgy. This century is, in western countries, the last one to offer such a model which gives the possibility to married men to hold responsibilities in the Church without giving up their jobs. As a matter of fact, a deacon of today is not so different from a lay person with whom he shares a non-clerical lifestyle. He may also be confused with a priest because, at a time of lack of sacerdotal ministers, he endorses many of the latters' functions. It seems that, coming back to a more traditional approach and applying it to the demands of modern times, we could find again the true image of the deacon, the main function of whom is to remind us of Christ as a servant.
