Résumé / Abstract
Traditional approaches to management have always focused on economics. In the '90s, however, new aspects such as occupational health and safety, quality and environmental protection gained importance and became central pillars of sustainable development strategies. ISO 9001, ISO 14001, EMAS and OHSAS 18001 are the most widely used international standards for independent certification of management systems. They were recently revised, and there is now more room for effective integration of the various aspects of management. This article presents the results of the SIAMESI project carried out at ENEA's Trisaia Research Centre, in the Basilicata region. Its aim was to define and implement an integrated (environment/health/safety) management tool tailored for Trisaia. The system should enable the Centre to improve its performance through better control of its research and management activities. In the authors' opinion, the SIAMESI-Trisaia model can be applied by any research organization whose activities, products and processes have similar features and problems.
