Résumé / Abstract
With the aim of increasing knowledge about the milk quality of the Valle del Belice breed ewes, reared outside the area of origin, a study was made of 3,214 regular lactations, from as many ewes, reared in 12 flocks, 6 inthe area of origin and 6 in the area of expansion of the breed. Productive characteristics were utilised to evaluate the ewes reared in the two breeding areas; the distribution of deliveries in the course of the year was also taken into consideration. Two different approaches of statistical analysis were used: univariate and multivariate analyses. A 3-factor model of ANOVA was employed to estimate the effects of breeding area, parity and type of lambing, on milk yield and milk composition; a canonical discriminant analysis was made to discriminate between the ewes reared in the two breeding areas. Results showed that the ewes reared in the area of origin produced more milk than those reared in the expansion area, whereas no significant differences were found in milk composition. Positive trends were found between parity and total milk yield, and between parity and milk fat and protein percentages; type of lambing positively influenced only milk yield, not milk composition. Results of univariate analysis were confirmed by canonical discriminant analysis.
