Résumé / Abstract

The polysemy of the information concept seems to be a consequence of the appropriation of the term by different areas of knowledge, when specialists express an agreement about a certain phenomenon, according to the development of theories and methodologies. These will be affect accordingly with the evolution of the investigations. Both Information Science and Documentation have their origins in the specialized bibliography, based on the scientific production, in the treatment and organization aiming its use by the scientific community. The bibliometrics is an example of the first big theoretical and methodological effort for the more adequate treatment and analysis of the phenomenon of the explosion of the information, or, in other terms, of the expansion of the documentary mass. The documentary mass, conventional or virtual, can be approached as the object of study of several sciences, including the Information Science. The structure of the information is considered in the registration of information in a physical base that accepts it; the structure is planned then to be a group of elements with the logical principles. Each document, in the sense of registered information, depending on the purposes of the investigation, but it would be possible to aim two interdependent directions: the first one has for object the content while the second study the structure of the document itself. With the structure, in another margin of the process, the Information Science works to become it accessible. The Information Science, for due to its origin in the industry of the information, seems to privilege the vision of information as registered knowledge, related with the document concept, in the Popperian concept of the term as defended here. It spreads in the view the idea that the Information Science is centered in the analysis of the phenomenon of the documentary mass, according to this arguments the basic element is the proper document. The elements of the document are: the support (its physics bases that gathers the ideas built in a certain format); the format (the design or architecture that determines the reading of a text and their sequence); the content (facts and ideas, original or not, that requires to be disseminated to generate new ideas); and typology (forms of classifying the publications that disseminate the knowledge). There is a necessary interrelation among the elements of the sequence typology-content-format-support, the alteration of one of these elements presupposes some transformation in the other ones. The transformations observed in each point of the interaction cycle answers to the real production necessities and communications problems of scientists, technologists, academics, the generators in the process. It also presents the transition phases in the architecture of the registered knowledge, culminating in the extensive model, based on the accessibility. It concludes affirming that the integration of the documents in the space of civility transforms the documentary mass in a working instrument, in a tool with specific physical properties and functionality. This revolution is linked to the transformations of the apparatuses with cultural, politics and social influences.
