Résumé / Abstract
The work was carried out in areas at the Agriculture Station belonging to the Agricultural Research Institute «Jorge Dimitrov» on a fluvisol soil, in Mabay, Bayamo; Granma province, with the objective to determinate the cualitative and cuantitative effect of the employment of mulch used in the production of tomato plants. The variety used was tropical Mallac-10, using the system of seedling production in nurseries to naked root in hight bed of 1.40 m of wide. Different organic mulching were applied on the surface of soil, with two densities of biomasses of four species: two poaceas, a umbelliferous one and a musacea. The treatments were the following ones: vetiver (Anetherum zizanioides L.) and corn (Zea mays L.), the fennel (Foeniculum vulgare Mill) and burro cemsa (Paradisiac muse L.). With dry plants's remain were conformed the treatments of dense volumes and them were distributed between furrow and the less dense ones were located in longitude sense of the bed in the surface of the same one. The parcels had a calculation area of 2.24 m2
and their were located in an aleatory way with four repetetions. The experiment was developed under field conditions and to full sun; a control was without covering was used in all periods's seedling. There were necessary the indexes of the development of the foliars area of the seedling in three moments after sowing (at 19, 21 and 24 days), the germination, the behavior of the plagues and the emergency of the overgrow. The best results in the indicators: germination, diameter of the shaft, longitude and mass of the plant in general, they are shown with the employment of the coverings used that they favored the development to foliate of the tomato seedling. They stand out the two treatments of vetiver, in the indicators of more incidence that were: diameter and longitude of the seedling. The coverings of the vetiver, corn and banana diminished the density of overgrow for m2
that was superior to the control.
