Résumé / Abstract

This paper introduces a re-evaluation of OOIP for one of the Middle East fields located in offshore Arabian Gulf. It Is a limestone oil reservoir entirely underlain by a bottom aquifer, and Its oil gravity sharply Increases from approximately 330 to 100 API with increasing depth. Now It has a production period of more than 30 years. A sharp decline In its pressure was noticed In Its early production period. Therefore, pressure maintenance operation was carried out by dumping water injection from the shallow aquifer Into the light oil zone of the reservoir periphery. The noticed lack of bottom aquifer response might be due to the heavy viscous oil mat prevailing over the oil-water contact. Even after its long period of production, It Is therefore Important to re-evaluate the bottom aquifer response and recalculate its OOIP. This is done by the direct approach method. This method presents a material balance equation In a form that allows calculating OOIP and water influx without any pre-selection of aquifer models. A comparison between the calculated OOIP from this method and early material balance methods was done.
