Résumé / Abstract

200 Tawny Owl nest-boxes were set up in three Oak forest and two Beech forests (over 150km2). They are being monitored two to three times a year. A maximum number of adult were caught and ringed. There age was recorded by they being rung as chicks or using the flight feather pattern. This monitoring has shown that adult tawny owls only move outside their territory under exceptional circumstances. The replacement of the male from a nest boxes indicates the previous male is dead. Pine Marten predation does not affect Tawny Owl population in the area, but road traffic is an importance source of mortality. Nest boxes situated near major roads show a high adult turnover rate. in areas away from majors roads Tawny Owl live on average two years older.
