Résumé / Abstract
Osteomyelitis, generally caused by Staphylococcus spp., is unresponsive to antimicrobial therapy in many people. Therefore interest is turning towards therapy by stimulation of the immune defence mechanism with autovaccine formed by aetiological agents responsible for osteomyelitis. We report on the effect of vaccinotherapy in 82 patients affected by chronic osteomyelitis with follow-up of 2-4 years. In 54% of the patients there was a clinical and radiological recovery, whereas in 46% recovery was possible only after an operation. The immune parameters at different time intervals following the immunotherapeutical regimen were evaluated in 16 patients with chronic osteomyelitis, 13 of whom had a depressed immune response. The autogenous vaccine was able to increase Ig production, while there was no effect on the former immune parameters.
