Résumé / Abstract

All companies have their own records, but company archivists are still rare in Flanders. Besides, the company records themselves display substantial differences: some companies have no archival policy at all (20-30%), others merely respect the legal provisions (50-60%), still others conduct an explicit internal archival policy (10-20%), and a small group pursues an explicit external and internal archival policy (1%). Company archivists are in need of a clearly described task. Besides being the curator of archives, they should also cooperate with information scientists, organisation analysts and documentalists in order to help determine the data flow in their company. A first step towards an amelioration of their situation is the creation in December, 2000 of a working group Company Archives within the VVBAD.
