Résumé / Abstract

In this study our aim was to assess the therapeutic efficacy and safety of amoxicillin 875 mg and ambroxol 60 mg in a twice daily association during a mean of 10 days, for the treatment of patients with acute bronchitis. We prospectively studied 62 consecutive outpatients -males and females- with acute bronchitis, from October 1st, 2000 through July 31, 2001. Diagnosis was performed by medical history, physical examination and laboratory studies (sputum culture). Subsequently to this therapy, a progressive decrease of cough intensity and higher fluidity of sputum was achieved at the 3rd day of treatment, and almost elimination of these symptoms after 10 days of therapy. More than half the patients treated showed disappearance of complaints such as cough and expectoration, after 10 days of treatment and only 3 (4.9%) continued with purulent sputum. No adverse drug reactions were detected during the treatment. These results indicate that the association amoxicillin-ambroxol in a twice daily medication can be administered safely along without undesirable effects, for the successful management of patients with acute branchitis.
