Résumé / Abstract

The division of time in cycles has either an astronomical basis or a historical connotation like the seven-day week. Cycles of this type allow a survey and interpretative model for past and future. As well cultures as religions have their roots in the continuity of such cycles and develop some prognostics with their help. Up to the birth of Christ there were four ideas of time: the archaic, magical, mythical-cyclic and rational-irreversible time. Partially Christianity has taken up these four ideas of time to be able to interpret the idea of plenitude of time/kairos. The historical turn with Christ's birth has as consequence not only a general historisation, but also some important anthropological consequences, e. g. the idea of decision once for ever in one's personal life time, the conception of world history and world time, the conception of future, and eschatology. By this last conception two possible items are avoided: the apathy of an unteleological running of time as well as the hybris of a total selfsufficient society.
